Brainscape - Smart Flashcards App Reviews

I love this product. It is a great tool to use to study for tests, but its also great to flip through some subjects for fun or to brush up on them. Full disclosure: I had purchased multiple premium subjects (I found it well worth the money) and as a result I was grandfathered into the Pro version. Had this new pay structure been in place then, I am not sure that I would have given this app a chance. If you are a power user or if youre studying for a big exam like the MCAT or GRE I would recommend paying to get the extra features and premium subjects (at least for a few months while you need it). Given the price, I dont think that I would pay on a monthly basis what the developers are currently asking, but maybe for a few months of intense study. The product is great and I recommend giving it a chance. Its a shame to see such a promising app taken down by new pricing structures.

The minds behind this app are genius! The method of studying has helped me in every single subject I have used them for. I only wish this was available when I was in school!

What a fun way to cram for tests!

I have been using Brainscapes Chinese flashcard system for over two years until one day it just stopped working. When trying to use it a screen would pop-up with a price structure offering me their features a-la-carte, features I was used. Because of my travel situation it is often difficult for me to access things like the app store and gmail. After sometime I stumbled across an email from Brainscapes owner Mr. Cohen explaining the situation. Personally I did not care for some of the tone of the email about bad reviews he received and him asking users not to "Flame" him in the reviews. He must understand why people are upset when services promised are taken away even accidentally. It is a new business world on the internet and one of the biggest challenges is communication and creating a personal interaction, this is important both in both directions of communication between supplier and customer. That said, I contacted Brainscape as directed using a strongly toned email myself now realizing it was completely unnecessary. In a very short period of time once I provided my receipt (in my mind should not be necessary) they resolved my issue and my Brainscape had its full functionality again. The support staff was responsive and understanding.... Thank you!! I was slightly inconvenienced... my life will go on just fine. THIS PRODUCT IS A FANTASTIC STUDY AID AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT to anybody who is looking for strong additional study material. They have many other offerings that intrigue me and someday if I can carve out a little more time I will purchase another subject even under their new format for product offerings. (businesses must always evolve to stay competitive) At this time however Chinese has proven an exhausting and never ending challenge. My China friends have seen the program and would like to possibly purchase it but I am not sure they can get it off of their app system. I will reach out to Brainscape about this, I know my friends here would like the app in a reverse format. If it is not really offered here Brainscape is missing out on a fairly large consumer population. :) Brainscape deserves the opportunity to satisfy any issues you have before you openly attack them in the market, any business deserves this chance. This used to be a great app. I used it all the time to study. I have to problem for paying for functionality, but to force me to pay in order to edit cards that I created is too much. I understand paying for your premium cards, but to have to pay for the privilege of changing my own cards is ridiculous. Goodbye Brainscape...

There is so much that they got exactly right to help you learn fast. Put the time in with this app and you can learn anything.

This is a tremendous app for studying because of the adaptive learning method used to focus on questions needing greater focus thru increased repetition. This has gotten me thru two certifications. Suggested improvements - Easier import/export locally Reduced paid subscription rates

I love Brainscape. I used to use Lumosity until the benefits of that app were basically debunked to me. Brainscape is more legitimate, in that there are no hypotheticals. You are learning cold hard facts, not playing games that might help improve your memory or problem solving. Brainscape has worked for me helping me learn more about subjects I care about. The only problem is that there are tons of knowledge you cant access without paying, but they do offer a lifetime subscription, which I might purchase soon.

It used to be free with all features. I have over 7,000 flashcards on here and I cant study them like I used to be able to. They now are charging people. Its unfair. I have put to much in this app but Im sad to say I will not pay them the $35 for a year for an app. Im deleting it.

Easy, convenient way to study French. I use the free version and still get all the studying I need. Easy transition between web and app versions of my library.

After all of this time, there are still difficulties in editing and creating flash cards (for example, entering advanced formulas). Its also annoying to receive emails from them in which they call you a heavy user even though youve been using the app more infrequently due to the poor updates. I would suggest using another app like Quizlet - the subscription is cheaper and theres better flashcard organization.

tldr; If considering in-app purchases think twice, as I will before making further purchases. The app is great and is the best way for improving the pace at which you learn flashcards. The in app purchase Spanish flashcards are full of errors. Errors happen and they even have a way to report errors, but in the past year Ive experienced no corrections posted. I regularly report errors I find, along with references to trusted Spanish-English dictionaries, and they never implement changes. If were paying for these cards I expect them to be held to a higher standard than free cards. If at some point I see them making amendments to the erroneous cards Ill update my review to reflect that. 3 stars because the app is good, but the paid flashcards are of moderate quality.

So helpful. Spanish, tarot cards, tech start up, proverbs and idioms, vocal workout, psychology and history.

I have no complaints at all! I havent come across a better flash card app. I highly recommend it.
